Polydesmida sp.?
Red and black millipede with a cylindrical body, reasonably large body segment, and approx. 4-5 cms in length. Spotted by ShannaB on a sandy track. A native species? PS: The only other image I've found online that looks remotely like this specimen has no common or scientific name. There are quite literally hundreds of native millipede species in Australia, although this may be an imported species. Anyway, a couple of handy references - https://www.polydesmida.info/millipedeso... https://www.polydesmida.info/millipedeso...
Boondall Wetlands Reserve - http://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/environme... The trees in this spotting location are predominantly She-oak (casuarina) and Melaleuca species.
Spotted with my PN buddies Shanna Bignell and Pamela Sai. Thank you both for such a wonderful day :-)

Thank you, all. It really was, Shanna. I didn't notice the colour at all until I did a crop. I had to do a re-light because the sun was so bright, and then the colour popped. I'd love to know what species this is. I've looked at a billion images and I'm still no closer to ID-ing this critter.
Nice shot, Neil, it didn't look anywhere near as colourful in real life!
Millipedes are so neat! The segments on this one are larger than our North American millipede. Thanks for sharing!
ordinary they might be, but sharp and bright also...
Very ordinary photos, but I would love to know what species this is.
Nice...
