Jack in the Pulpit, Indian Turnip

Arisaema triphyllum

Description:

Spotted during hike in a deciduous forest in a neighbours property. Perennial Herb, 12 to 36 inch tall formed from acrid corm. My book suggests the root was dried as part of the diet of the native Indians here. (root contains needle like crystals of calcium oxalate and burns mouth if not dried), http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arisaema_tr...

Habitat:

Noted beside a rocky wet creek.
