Metatrichia vesparium
Slime mold growing on the underside of a highly decayed log. Fuzzy, dark red to orange spore masses have burst forth from several of the sporangia (goblets), while some of the black (spherical) sporangia remain closed in their immature form and have not yet released their spore masses.
On the underside of a highly decayed log in a dense mixed hardwood/coniferous forest in Northwest Georgia.
