bottlenose dolphin

Tursiops truncatus

Description:

The Bottle Nose Dolphin, although found through the world's ocean are mostly found in temperate and tropical waters. A Bottle Nose Dolphin lives in a family group called a pod and often members of other pods will join together to create a large herd often for purposes of hunting. Their name comes from the shape of their beak which is similar to that of a bottle.

Notes:

Seeing these guys leaping out of the water while I was on a beach walk was the highlight of our beach vacation!

Thank you! I was thrilled to get this shot, because though we see dolphins often at this beach, they don't usually come in close enough to get pictures with any details. My favorite part is the smile!
