Showy Headshield Slug

Philinopsis speciosa

Description:

This headshield slug is also referred to as Philinopsis cyanea, Aglaja cyanea and Doridium cyanea. This very attractive slug has variable coloration, from a light translucent brown to opaque dark brown (even black). There are two parallel lines (yellow to orange-brown) running down either side of its midline, and often another pair further out (like in this individual).

Habitat:

Widespread in the Indo-West Pacific.

Notes:

Spotted this headshield slug in about 40ft of water during a night dive at the Isla Reta Beach Resort, Talikud Island. It was 7cm long and was very active, crawling at a fast clip on the sand and rubble.
