Callosciurus prevostii
Also known as the Asian Tri-Coloured Squirrel. This species is one of the most colourful mammals in the world. it has a black tail, back and head, grey cheeks foxy red belly and forelegs and white flanks and thighs.
A forest inhabitant. This one was found at an Orangutan feeding station in Central Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), in the Putang National Reserve.
These animals have a habit of eating the fruit or kernel around the nut but then dropping the seed untouched. This makes them an important part of the ecosystem for helping to spread their food plants away from the parent tree.

Thank you for the explanation Daniele. I have of course heard of Frans but didn't know about his Facebook page. I am delighted this spotting got chosen.
Robert, Frans de Waal is a world-renowned primatologist and ethologist, best known for his work on chimpanzees and bonobos. His popular Facebook page reposts images or videos highlighting animal behavior or species of interest. Being featured there guarantees you thousands of views :-)
Thank you Daniele. I have to admit I am not a Facebook user so not entirely sure what this means but guessing it's a good thing :-)
Robert, your little guy has made it onto primatologist's Frans de Waal's Public Page, with credits. Congratulations!

Nice series!
Ridiculously cute squirrel Robert! Lovely series and notes as usual :-)
Thank you Ines. These guys have great colour but not often seen well in the wild. I appreciate your comment.
Super cute squirrel :) i didn´t know this species. Great pictures!
Thank you Polilla. I count myself lucky to have got these images as this species is nearly always aboreal in habit and not often seen near the ground. I have to say that once it noticed me is was off up the nearest tree in a flash!
