Lophocampa maculata
About 2- 3" in length, these caterpillars are furry and black with an orange band around the middle and long tufts of white fur sticking out of the black ends.
They are all over the Uinta mountains- a month ago they were covering everything, eating all the maple leaves into lacy skeletons.
