Western Side-blotched Lizard

Uta stansburiana elegans

Description:

Orange and brown lizard with spots or blotches. The second image is of one that is shedding as you can see at the base of the tail. The blue version (Nevada Side-blotched Lizard) can be seen at my other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/866...

Habitat:

Rocky area in backyard.

Notes:

Taxonomy is rather disputed on the subspecies. The males of this species has either a blue, orange or yellow throat which helps separate the subspecies. Each ssp has different mating strategies that has been described as Rock, Paper Scissors or "...orange beats blue, blue beats yellow, and yellow beats orange" - Wikipedia
