Giant Sequoia

Sequoiadendron giganteum

Description:

The Giant Sequoia is one of the 3 extant redwood species, and is the most massive of the three. The left two pics are of the General Sherman tree, which is the most massive single organism on the planet.

Habitat:

Sequoia National Park. A massive sub-alpine coniferous forest on the west side of the Sierra Nevadas.

Notes:

Beautiful and truly awe-inspiring trees. One of the best national parks in CA, and far better (and less crowded) than Yosemite.
