Balanophora fungosa ssp. fungosa

Description:

Parasitic plant, relying on a root connection to surrounding plants for nutrients. This plant is monoecious, with tiny female flowers on the top bulbous part of the inflorescence and larger male flowers below that. The inflorescence is subtended by non-photosynthetic bracts.

Habitat:

Mid-elevation tropical forest.
