Calliophis maculiceps
Quite small, almost like a big worm. Reddish brown in colour, but obvious black head.
In the jungle. Generally nocturnal and rarely seen in the day.

Wow, quite interesting. It just appeared across the path in front of us. We were in a jungle area, right next to a national park.
Also if I zoom in on my photo, it looks like there may be small faint, dots down the side of the snake. So it does seem very much like this one.
Thanks again for your help. :)
You're welcome. I'm not personally familiar with the species but the head markings seem to match and are apparently the same in all variations, including unpatterned forms (like yours) which are described http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/ve... and http://www.afpmb.org/content/venomous-an... It is a small snake too, rarely seen in the daytime or exposed but it does happen http://www.venomlogic.com/thailand-2007....
Thanks for the help with the ID. Some of those photos do look like it. Much appreciated.
