Athene cunicularia
Small Owl that spends most of his lifetime in the ground. It nests in the ground too.
Plain lands with dansy soils. Open landscapes of North and South America.
They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs. Unlike most owls, Burrowing Owls are often active during the day, although they tend to avoid the midday heat.

I love Burrowing owls, they have such big attitudea. One used to attack my truck as I drove by its burrow in the evenings.
