Ganoderma oregonense
Bright orange and yellow above dark red, shallacked-looking and hardened. When poked it felt like vinyl covering foam rubber--it could be easily depressed. The growing edge is cream-colored running to white on the lower surface, which has small pores. The pored surface is harder than the stem. Not as heavy as a conk. The previous year's fruiting body was larger than it was thick, as opposed to the current, growing fruiting body, and a more uniform dark red which had lost its shininess.
Growing on a fallen yew tree log in a forest of mostly yew and some Douglas fir, a dozen yards from a creek but in generally dry country on the west side of the high Cascade Range.
I've never seen one of these so glowing in color, in the midst of its growing season. These are annual fruitings, and older mostly-decayed ones from previous years were still kicking around the same log.
