from the promenade at the port we could see a little beach, where a lot of sea gulls were resting, all of them had a light grey back, and there were a lot of chicks too.

This is a cooler spotting than you might guess! These are Yellow-legged Gulls Larus cachinnans. They are very similar to Herring Gulls, but their legs are yellow.
Or, just to get more complex, these could be very light backed Lesser Black-backed gulls.
