Copperbelly water snake

Description:

Dark snake observed in and on the water and water plants at a cypress swamp. Orange under head. The northern population (MI, northern IN, OH) of copperbelly water snakes is listed as threatened, but this southern population of copperbelly water snakes is not currently considered threatened.

Habitat:

Bald cypress swamp in southern Illinois.
