Sailfish

Istiophorus platypterus

Description:

This was not caught in any way. It seemed to be exhibiting a playful or hunting behavior by breaching. It was pretty unusual as the waters around where this photo was taken is relatively shallow i.e. 5-18 meter depth. It was seen around the area for about 2 weeks before I finally caught a photo of it.

If you blow it up it really looks like something caught around rear fins.
Good captures anyway.

@Argybee: Looks like a shadow from the tail although its a bit thin. Unfortunately no other shots of the tail region for comparison.

Many people believe that these larger predatory species are jumping to help dislodge sea lice from the skin. Great sighting!
