Grizzled Giant Squirrel

Ratufa macroura

Description:

Large squirrel with white front parts. Very agile.

Habitat:

It is said to be almost totally arboreal. Certainly it was very much as home in the trees, rarely pausing for a shot. Woody area around a Buddhist holy site. These trees were near the parking space and our Sri Lankan driver spotted it first. "Come immediately" he said and I am glad I ran.He said there was a pair but I saw only this one. I think it is a female. Never seen this animal before. The last photo gives an idea about how high up it was in the trees.

Notes:

This cute squirrel is the National Animal of Sri Lanka.
