Hydrophilus piceus
Brown fat and chubby grub like creature with claws at his head in the front and also some tentacles at his tail. It wobbled its way over the path. It moved by bopping its body up and down. It was fast! When it turned over it had a few legs in the front of his body and two legs at the end.

It was a very fast bopper!

Wow! What a cool spotting. That is a very large beetle larva! I moved this to the Arthropods section for you. :-)
