Spotting

Description:

The grass is left to grow long on the Woodland mound at Kew and cut in sections at the end of the summer. The amount of life that runs for cover is a great advert for this regime. Regularly mowed lawns are BAD for biodiversity. Most was too fast to photograph (voles etc) but there were many, many, baby toads.

Thanks for the suggestion Chris. It spurred me into some research, which was much, much simpler than I'd thought it would be. Turns out there are only 2 toad spp. in the UK (big lesson for today :0) ) The Natterjack has a stripe down the middle of its back, which I can't see here. So I'm leaning towards Bufo bufo, the Common Toad. What makes you think it's a Natterjack?
