Rynchops niger
Bird of singular beak and long wings that frequents estuaries and coasts. Marked sexual diformism in size, being the largest male and with the longest peak.
Sandy beaches, estuaries and protected bays. Occasionally in lagoons and inland lakes.
Gregarious, usually in large flocks and associated with seagulls and terns. Low flight, direct and deep flapping, "scratching" the surface, catch fish and other prey, with the beak open and the jaw in contact with the water. Fly preferably during the morning or sunset, while during the day prefers to rest in groups. Shy
