The American alligator, once hunted nearly to extinction, is a conservation success story, with numbers now so high that limited hunting is again permitted.
I love gators and I am always shocked and pleasantly surprised how Florida doesn't try to fence them out of the populated areas. You can get pretty close to them in many parks. I have however seen tourists who get entirely too close and try to take photos with their children nearby the alligator. Such beautiful animals for being so "old".
Thanks, Apple! About 20 feet or so, I think? We have a pretty good zoom on the camera, but I know I was pretty close here without being TOO close. Always gotta be careful with gators!
