Spotting

Description:

What appears to be a ribcage and tail, kind of looked like a giant scorpion except that there was decaying tissue on the skeletal remains. Trying to recall dimensions, guessing around a foot long as observed.

Habitat:

rural/residential

Notes:

Was surprised to find this decomposing skeleton under the lawn mower (in a garage with the door always open) last spring. No idea what it is but found these photos on a memory card today and my curiosity was re-ignited. Picture taken on concrete garage floor (with oil spots, and dead leaves) Apologies for poor quality of pictures.

Remains of a younger/smaller canadian goose put under the lawn mower by a raccoon? (Lots of geese in the area, not many other birds that big. From the list of predators I came across, raccoons and bears have been spotted locally.)

It's hard to tell from the pictures but I believe what you have there is not ribcage and tail but partial pelvis, ribcage and neck bones of some kind of bird. It will be very difficult to determine specie!
