Blue-eyed Darner

Aeshna multicolor

Description:

Gone almost as soon as he showed up, this dragonfly had a mostly dark body with two of the most striking blue eyes I have ever seen on an insect.

Habitat:

Somewhere around halfway down Mombacho Volcano this dragonfly showed up amongst several butterflies that were variously settling on cultivated flowers outside of a coffee shop. The area is cloudy, often rainy, but at an elevation that was still fairly warm.
