Peackock

Pavo cristatus

Description:

Peafowl are two asiatic species of flying birds in the genus Pavo of the pheasant family, Phasianidae, best known for the male's extravagant eye-spotted tail, which it displays as part of courtship. The male is called a peacock, the female a peahen, and the offspring peachicks.[1] The adult female peafowl is grey and/or brown. Peachicks can be between yellow and a tawny colour with darker brown patches.

thanks

Common name can be Indian Peafowl (both sexes) or Peacock (for male only).
Scientific name is Pavo cristatus. I added a web-link to your page for details of all the known variations.
Common names also vary from country to country as well as within countries so its OK to put in whichever you know, in the notes section if there are a lot!

which one is the true?

Peacock (correct spelling) is a generic name for all male Peafowl, Peahen is generic for all females, however Peacock is used commonly to cover all of them.
