Rim Lichen

Lecanora straminea

Description:

Clumpy-looking lichen with brown apothecia

Habitat:

Large boulders on the beach

Notes:

At first I thought this was a Hypogymnia, but it is in fact, a Lecanora. A lichenologist told me that "some day, Lecanora will be taxonomically revised, and recircumscribed, and this will no longer be a Lecanora. It is rather distant from the core 'type' species of Lecanora"
