spotted Dracaena (Japanese bamboo)

Dracaena surculosa

Description:

Long considered a bamboo (many call it "Japanese bamboo") this plant is actually a member of the family Asparagaceae. Here, its spectacular floral inflorescences are in bloom.

Habitat:

This specimen is a potted plant, outdoors. The climate is equatorial/tropical.

Notes:

Note the "spotted" leaves, for one common name. See the 3rd photo (right side) to see the bamboo-like stem for the origin of the other common name. See the fruits that resulted from these flowers and more views of the plant here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/782...

See also the third photo right side (above) for a view of the stem that gives rise to one of the common names.

It would be interesting to see a good picture of the plant so as to understand the common name.
