Mexican Fan Palms

Washingtonia robusta

Description:

Can grow to be 100 ft (30.5 m),. Mexican Fan Palms have: A gray trunk ringed with closely set leaf scars although usually at least part of the trunks remain covered with dead leaves that hang in a thatch. The solitary trunks, about 10-12 in (25.4-30.5 cm) in diameter, bulge at the ground and become slender as they approach a crown of large palmate leaves with gracefully drooping leaflet tips.

Habitat:

Native to western Sonora and Baja California Sur in northwestern Mexico. Frequently it is grown as an ornamental tree.

Growing as landscape at my in-law's condo complex.

Thanks for the tips. I researched it out and they are in that family. Couldn't get a close up of the fronds. I had the small camera and it doesn't do telephoto. I went by memory on how the fronds looked.

I think these are washingtonia. without a close up of the frond it is difficult. wait for some other comments before you make any name changes
