Description:

Common in lowland and montane forest and edge, in understory and canopy, often in mixed flocks foraging up branches and trees. smallest Philippine woodpecker, unlikely to be confused with other species. ♀ lacks red in hind crown. Call - single plit or stuttering trill pilt-pilt-pilt-pilt-pilt lasting about 2.3 sec. slightly descending and repeated irregularly. also drums.
