Coopers Hawk

Accipiter cooperii

Description:

a crow size Raptor with rounded wings and a long rounded tail, white is last band and larger than the band of a similar Sharp-shinned Hawk. Slate steel gray above and fine Rust color vertical striations below. Very manuverable and able to force doves into windows! They like to eat their own kind.

Habitat:

Indemic to most all of the US in Deciduous generally and occassionally Coniferous treescapes... Loves Bird Feeders!

Notes:

i'm always hoping Mr. Cooper and his Lady Friend who frequent my Feeder especially in the Winter will take ALL of the Hse Sparrows.. but today it was a jewel in my little bird sanctuary that got eaten ~ a Black-capped Chickadee. The first two pix are of the hawk eating and the third one it was just sitting, waiting for something bigger i'm sure ~ It hung there for over an hour! (not posted sideways this time)
