Poecile atricapillus
Black cap and throat. Buff or orangish sides (can be gray in worn birds) long, gray tail with a very short black bill.
Chickadees may be found in any habitat that has trees or woody shrubs, from forests and woodlots to residential neighborhoods and parks, and sometimes weedy fields and cattail marshes. They frequently nest in birch or alder trees.
Photographs in this series include several different Black-capped chickadees in the late fall (November 2nd) and early winter (December 28th). All birds were photographed in the same location.
What a lucky man, he is! I am green with envy...Would love to "hand-feed" a wild bird...Great photo series! Love it!! :)
beautiful series! I love black-capped chickadees. We have an European version here in Belgium but they are more wary and don´t approach easily..
They are lovely little birds. The next day after I took these photos I went back to that same spot with a big bag of plain unshelled peanuts and fed them for a couple of hours. Which reminds me... to update my profile pic.
That is actually the hand of an elderly gentleman I met today. He has been feeding the birds at the Hilton Falls Conservation area for six years from November until March. It was lovely meeting someone who is so passionate about these beautiful birds. Glad you like them!
