Spotting

Description:

Flowers pinkish to light purple, tubular with 5 lobes, up to 1/2" long (entire). Flowers grow singly. Leaves simple, smooth margins, fleshy, woolly, elliptical, 1/2- 3/4" long. Plants ranging from 4-8" tall.

Habitat:

Along dirt/gravelly road and at bottom of slopes, mostly limestone. Full sun to mostly sunny. Typical gypsophilic plant.

Notes:

Most likely Tiquilia genus. Does not exactly fit descriptions for the two predominant sp. T. hispidissima or T. canescens. Plants were not typical mat- and low-growing (T. hispidissima), nor exhibited the typical gray cast on leaves of T. canescens. Specimens were prolific near bottom of large limestone and gypsum draw (seasonal water, mostly dry year round). No specimens of this species found at higher elevations above the draw (T. greggii more common above). This area has greater diversity of vegetation due to partial shade during day from high slopes of draw and infrequent moisture during seasonal rains.
