Peacock wrasse (male)

Thalassoma pavo (male)

Description:

Thalassoma pavo (girelle paon in French, γύλος in Greek) is a very impressive colored mediterranean fish. It is hermaphrodite (females can remain females or transformed to males but some males can be directly born as males) Thalassoma pavo presents a very pronounced sexual dimorphism. In this spot you see the male colors, with uniform green color and a vertical blue stripe surrounded by red, over the pectoral fin. Look to my other spot for the female colors: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/794...

Habitat:

Rocky beach, Ionian sea greek island.
