Queen Conch

Lobatus gigas

Habitat:

seagrass meadows and on sandy substrate, usually in association with turtle grass and manatee grass; Juveniles inhabit shallow, inshore seagrass meadows, while adults favor deeper algal plains and seagrass meadows.

Notes:

A juvenile near shore, largest of about 3 or 4 I saw during this particular snorkel. Briefly and gently handled for photo, then placed back where found. I observed it feeding on manatee grass. I always think their eyes look very comical.
