Lacewing

Chrisopidae

Description:

Delicately built insect, with long bright green body of some 20 to 25 mm in length (body without antennae or wings) and long intricately nerved wings. Long antennae and well developed eyes, as it is a night insect.

Habitat:

Seen on my balcony - area surrounding Jura Mountain Range, alpine environment; lot of woods around (parc and forests).

Notes:

Larves, as voracious predators, attacking soft bodies insects (aphids, caterpillars, eggs...) are often called "aphid lions" (sometimes spelled as "aphidlions") and are used as a biological pest control agent.
