Peacock wrasse (female)

Thalassoma pavo (female)

Description:

Thalassoma pavo (girelle paon in French, γύλος in Greek) is a very impressive colored mediterranean fish. It is hermaphrodite (females can remain females or transformed to males but some males can be directly born as males) Thalassoma pavo presents a very pronounced sexual dimorphism. In this spot you see the female colors, with five vertical green stripes and a black dot between second and third stripe. Look to my other spot for the male colors: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/791...

Habitat:

Rocky beach, Ionian sea greek island.
