Lactarius mucidus

Lactarius mucidus

Description:

2" diameter mushrooms growing in leaf little at edge of woods.

Notes:

I've Id'd this from a reference book. It looks identical to the photos there but not to those I've found on the web so please correct me if I'm wrong.

Could be, but I'm used to seeing a well exposed stem and ring in the photos of honeys. The first time I encountered an actual honey in the wild I knew it immediately. Been hunting them for about 3 years now, actively

Karen, this is about a meter away from the edge of the wood so I think it could be growing from tree roots. That said, I am a complete novice with regard to fungi!

Doesn't appear to be growing on wood... I'm guessing not honey
