Nassarius papillosus

Description:

Mollusk with "pimpled" brown and white tapering shell ~ 3 cm long. Its foot is white with multiple black and one prominent red spots.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical reef ecosystem; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted offshore of Leeward Oahu, in sand channel between coral-covered rocky areas. Date is notional, ca. 1983. Original medium was photoprint, taken with Nikonos III using close-up kit and flash; print subsequently scanned and image saved as digital file.
