Lion

Panthera leo

Description:

One of the lions I was privileged to observe as part of the lion monitoring project I was involved with as a volunteer. This male was fitted with a radio collar so that we could locate him using telemetry. We had to rely on good old fashioned tracking skills & a fair bit of luck to find the rest of the pride!

Habitat:

Eastern Cape, SA

Notes:

I couldn't resist sharing another photo of Mufasa, one of the lions we were monitoring during my stay in South Africa!

Emma, I have seen the clip many times but watching it still brings a tear to my eyes! I can remember seeing exotic animals for sale in Harrods when I was child - thankfully that stopped many years ago.

Audobon probably is stressing this month to help the tired and hungry migratory birds.
They posted a link on FB. So i decided to pass it on.
Thanks for feeding the birds and other critters!!

Thank you July! I loved South Africa but enjoyed Tanzania even more! I dream of going back too - I would love to visit Botswana while the Okavango delta is flooding to see all the amazing wildlife they have there.
How cool that your 4 year old wants to go there!

Beautiful! The third one is my favorite. :) I went to South Africa for my honeymoon and dream of going again. I did not want to leave, lol. Last time I was in Africa, we went to Tanzania. I'm always talking of my trips, and my 4 year old 2 days ago said to me he wants to go there too, :).
