Genus: Russula
Mostly white with splashes of red. Cap appeared fringed but I doubt if this is its natural appearance. It looks like the cap has deteriorated and the gills are showing through.

Clive ... That is a perfect example of what I am talking about. Very interesting.
One of the problems I have with identifying mushrooms is their changing appearance as they go through the life cycle. Some of changes are quite dramatic but not shown in literature on the subject.
