A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
I believe this is an assassin bug of some variety. The first displayed image was the 3rd image in a series of 3 images, and was taken after the second shown (appearing to show it attempting to draw nectar from the closed bud).
Found on unknown flower buds in local community college's butterfly garden. There are many other assassin bug varieties in the same garden, as well as many nymphs.
It appears to be prodding the flower bud with it's proboscis. There seems to be a recent increase in assassin bug population not only in the butterfly garden, but across the city as of the last 2-3 years.
Not a Reduviidae, but Lygaeidae. Looks like being another Oncopeltus fasciatus or similar.
