Florida Kingsnake

Lampropeltis getula floridana

Description:

The Florida kingsnake is easily one of my favorites. It's rather uncommon, but not rare. An elusive species, this individual was spotted deep in the heart of Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, stalking the side of a hidden road. Massive, extremely muscular, and remarkably smooth, this snake was a towering can of awesome. [janson jones http://dusttracks.com]

Added four photographs to this spotting on 17 January 2012. The additional photographs include a full-body perspective and closer shots of the face -- both for identification purposes.

Couldn't agree more, Karen! This was such an immaculate snake. Amazing pattern. And you wouldn't believe how smooth and muscular it felt. Just fantastic.
