Thank you ChristineSydes, this one has been puzzling me for a while now, I had never seen it before but there were a few around, on the ground that day. I will have a look in the Hetrodinae family also.
The Hetrodinae in our area (southern Africa) are all armoured ground crickets - your spot looks like a ground cricket but its not obviously armoured.
