Ringneck Snake

Diadophis punctatus

Description:

Small snake reaching an adult length of < 12 inches. Belly and ring around neck range from yellow to orange to bright red.

Habitat:

Fossorial snake living under leaf litter and in burrows in the ground. May be found inside of and under decomposing logs.

Notes:

A difficult snake to keep as a pet due its specialized diet of insect larvae.
