Baby White-Tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

This cute little one was taking a break near our mailbox. It didn't move when we approached it, so we went over to see if it was hurt. It let us sit there right next to it for a few minutes. Luckily, it was just fine...just a little tired! After a bit, it got to its feet and bounded off into the woods, where momma was waiting.

Habitat:

Edge of deciduous forest

Ah, so they're just like bunnies! We figured it was alright, but it was a pretty special encounter for sure. :) We've been finding even more fawns lying in the tall grass in our yard this year...we actually have to be really careful when mowing the lawn because they don't always move out of the way! Thanks for the info!
