Ringless Honey Mushroom

Armillaria tabescens

Description:

Leathery brown (with hints of orange) group of mushrooms with cream colored, slightly decurrent gills. Stipes thin and smooth with shallow striations. Dark spots towards center of caps. Cap and gills did not bruise upon scraping them. Smell earthy and slightly fruity.

Habitat:

Growing under a cedar tree in my yard after a day of rain. I have also seen this mushroom growing in disturbed grassy areas.

Notes:

Maybe a honey fungus?
