Plecia nearctica
Lovebugs, are small black flies, with a dull, somewhat velvety appearance, except that the top of the thorax ( the area immediately behind the head ), is red. I was standing in the hall, and I saw a black insect, resting on a pane of glass, that was attached to the right front window. This black insect, was a lovebug. This insect, had six, jointed legs. The color of its legs, is black. The color of its thorax, is red. The color of its wings, is black. Lovebugs, are little black flies, ( order Diptera, 1 pair of wings ), that have a red thorax.
Adult lovebugs, are completely dependent upon nectar and pollen as food. Lovebugs, feed during the day, and are thought to stop feeding, in the late afternoon. Lovebug larvae, use decayed vegetation, as a source of food.
I spotted one lovebug resting on a pane of glass, that was attached to the right front window, at around 3:30 p.m., in the afternoon.
