Empidonax difficilis
A member of the notoriously difficult genus Empidonax, the Pacific-slope is the most commonly found species in the southern San Francisco Bay. It is basically indistinguishable from the Cordilleran flycatcher, a species which can only be told apart from sound. Additionally, with the exception of vagrant individuals, the Cordilleran is found only in mountain ranges farther inland while the Pacific-slope is found along the West Coast. The two birds were once the "Western Flycatcher".
