Thank you, Adarsha and Kranti. Like other jays these birds are omnivorous and rather opportunistic. The first photo in the series is of an individual waiting on the railing on the second floor of the hostel where he had been being fed by a couple staying there.
@Courtney: I love that one too. This poor fellow about lost his mind trying to fend off tha handsome intruder.

I have to admit that this was by far my favorite bird of our Costa Rica trip this year.
