Broad-headed Bug

Habitat:

Edge of forest/road, on boneset (Eupatorium perfoliatum).

Notes:

Unfortunately, the picture doesn't give as much detail as I would like. It's tough to say whether this is a broad headed bug in the family Alydidae, or an assassin bug in the family Reduviidae. Spotted at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.

Oh, yes! My eyes were playing tricks, I can see now it is just a hole in the leaf under it.

I think it is Alydus eurinus.

That doesn't seem too far off. I don't have much experience with the broad-headed bugs, so I was thrown off a bit, and I've been dealing with some assassin bugs that look partially similar lately. I'll look into it more, thanks for the suggestion! I never noticed anything under it before...it looks like a hole in the leaf though.

Hmmm. Antenna and thick spiny back "femur" make me think this is a Alydus sp. maybe eurinus. But does it have something under it??? it's hard to tell but in the pic it looks like it has something, a leaf hopper perhaps, under it. still, I don't think it is any of the assassin bugs based on those back legs.
