Giant Leopard Moth ( A Third Caterpillar )

Hypercompe scribonia

Description:

A Third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar: Dec. 28, 2,017, at 4:00 p.m. in the afternoon, I removed the cover from the top of the new rearing chamber, to check on this black pupa, and this one inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar. Everything seemed okay, with these two. I used a pillowcase, to line the bottom and a little bit of the sides, of this new rearing chamber. On one end of this new rearing chamber, two pieces of pillowcase, came together, forming a long pocket, which I did not know about. After I checked to see if everything is okay, my eyes went to this long pocket, that was created by the two pieces of this pillowcase. I opened up this long pocket, using two of my fingers, and what I saw, shocked me! I couldn't believe what I saw! Lying in this long pocket, was a third, two inch long, black, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar. How did it get there? This third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, was hibernating, in this long pocket. I then took my two fingers, and I spread this long pocket, wide apart. Now, if this third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, wanted to move around on the floor, of this new rearing chamber, it was able to. I then went outside, and I got some new, fresh green leaves, for this third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, to munch on, during the night, if it wanted to. I was correct. Many hours later, this third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, started to move around, and then came out onto the new rearing chamber floor, and then went to sleep. What do I now have, inside this new rearing chamber. One black pupa. One, one inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, and one, two inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar. ( My third caterpillar ). Photo No. 1: is a photo of the new, two inch, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, sleeping on the floor, of this new rearing chamber. Photos No. 2 and 3: this shows the third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, hibernating in this long pocket, made by this pillowcase. Everyday and night, there are new surprises, in the lives of these three, Giant Woollybear Caterpillars. One of these days or night, these three, Giant Woollybear Caterpillars, will change into three, beautiful moths.

Habitat:

I am trying to rear, three, Giant Woollybear Caterpillars, until all three, change into beautiful moths.

Notes:

One afternoon, I discovered a third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, hibernating inside a long pocket, made by two pieces of a pillowcase, that I used for lining the new rearing chamber with. This third, Giant Woollybear Caterpillar, is two inches long, and its color is black. Now, I must wait, as nature takes its course, from an egg, to a caterpillar, to a pupa, and then to a beautiful moth, inside my new rearing chamber.
